Scotland v Australia - the story of the match

Scotland suffered yet more late heartache against Australia as they suffered a narrow 23-22 defeat at Murrayfield.

Huw Jones try double on his first Murrayfield start plus another score from Jonny Gray early in the second half put the Dark Blues in good position to gain revenge for last year's controversial World Cup quarter-final defeat.

But Australia fought back for another dramatic victory as tries from Reece Hodge and Tevita Kuridrani set up Bernard Foley to nail the decisive kick four minutes from time.

TWEET OF THE MATCH

"Huw Jones again for Scotland! Best performance by a Welshman in Scotland since Shakin' Stevens played Glasgow's Woodside Social in 1979" - parody account Super Gavin Henson (@UnrealGavHenson) laps up the Scotland centre's impressive display.

STAR MAN

Huw Jones - The 22-year-old centre was a bit of an unknown quantity for the Scotland faithful.

Although born in Edinburgh, few knew what he was capable of as he played his club rugby with the Stormers in South Africa. However, he announced himself to the Dark Blues public in fine fashion with a stylish brace.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

Australia came out of the blocks strongly but they were left stunned when Finn Russell's daring chip over the top of their defence set Jones free for a spectacular opening try after eight minutes.

DATA POINT

Ross Ford was given the honour of leading out the Scotland team as he became just the third Dark Blues player to reach 100 caps.

Only Chris Paterson (109) and Sean Lamont (105) have made more appearances for the national team.
