O’Connell set to say farewell to Thomond tomorrow

Reports indicate Paul O’Connell’s Munster career will come to an end when the current PRO12 campaign finishes, either tomorrow or next weekend.

The Irish Examiner reports that the Limerick native is considering retirement after the World Cup this Autumn, despite having 12 months left to run on his current IRFU deal.

That would mean that tomorrow’s game would be his last in Thomond Park, as if Munster win the semi-final against Ospreys the final is set to be played in Ravenhill.

That hasn’t been completely ruled out, but O’Connell ‘s focus is entirely on preparation for the World Cup.

Sources have indicated to the Irish Examiner that regardless of whether the player retires or moves he intends to say goodbye to Thomond Park tomorrow.

The Munster faithful will no doubt be keen to give the big man an exceptional send-off.

Munster play Ospreys on May 23 at Thomond Park - kick-off 2.30pm.
