Ireland pair avoid citings
Ireland's Jack McGrath and Ian Madigan have avoided citings after last night's match against the Barbarians at Thomond Park.
McGrath was sin-binned for kneeing lock Konstantin Mikautadze in the back, while his Leinster team-mate was caught on camera stamping in the same phase of play.
However, the two-hour window for lodging citings after an exhibition match saw no citings for either player.
Ireland coach Joe Schmidt is known to be a stickler for discipline, which is believed to have been part of the reason for not bringing McGrath back on after his time in the sin bin was up during Ireland's 22-21 defeat.
Schmidt said: "It was partly that and partially because we wanted to give Michael Bent a decent run. There were lot of guys we knew a fair bit about already and those guys we put in to glue the other guys together a little bit and we probably expected to take off some of the senior guys anyway.
"We probably don't need to know too much more about Jack, Jack started four out of the five Six Nations games, he started against South Africa and the Wallabies in the Autumn and played a lot off the bench in the Six Nations before that."
Schmidt said the game was a good opportunity to have a look at some of the fringe players for his World Cup squad.
He said: "You don't get too many free throws of the dice at Test match rugby, so to be able to get a bit of a look at players that we wouldn't normally have a lokk at, that's part of the reason why we left some guys out altogether, because we didn't really need to look at them too much.
"For some of them, they were carrying niggles and they had big seasons already, we decided to leave them out and have a bit of a broader look at a larger group."
