Ronnie O'Sullivan claims first win of the season
Ronnie O'Sullivan was far from convincing in beating world number 69 Daniel Wells 4-0 but claimed his first win of the season to reach the last 32 of the European Masters in Bucharest.
O'Sullivan had a let-off in the first frame and won a safety battle to edge the second 68-62.
He compiled a break of 51 to win the third and was always in control of the fourth to complete a whitewash.
The 40-year-old, who will now play David Gilbert on Tuesday evening, is still regaining match sharpness having missed the first four tournaments of the season.
World number one Mark Selby comfortably progressed to the next round in the evening session in Romania, beating Fergal O'Brien 4-0 in just 65 minutes.
A break of 88 won Selby the first frame, he enjoyed a 50 and a 71 in the second, with 109 in the fourth sealing an impressive victory.
Scotland's Rhys Clark reached the last 16 of a ranking event for the first time with a 4-1 win against David Grace, while earlier in the day, John Higgins put in an impressive display to claim a 4-0 victory against Michael Holt.
The Scot, who has been struggling with a rib injury sustained while playing football with his son six weeks ago, took just 68 minutes to see off Holt, making impressive breaks of 118 and104 in the process.
World number seven Neil Robertson edged past Graeme Dott 4-2, sealing victory with a 112 in the sixth frame, while Anthony McGill came from 3-2 down to beat Ali Carter 4-3 and book his place in the last 16.
Barry Hawkins also edged past Michael Wild 4-3, Tom Ford beat Robin Hull 4-1, Andrew Higginson saw off Marco Fu 4-0 and Ricky Walden was a 4-2 victor over Yan Bingtao.
