The Indians haven't won the World Series since 1948 while the Cub's trophy cabinet has been without a crowning glory since 1908 - a combined 176 years without a championship.

The Chicago franchise is haunted by the 'Curse of the Billy Goat'.

The story goes that Billy Sianis, a local tavern owner, placed the curse on the Cubs after he was ejected from Wrigley Field in 1945 due to the smell of his pet goat, Murphy, which was bothering fans.

Sianis is thought to have uttered the words: "Them Cubs, they ain't gonna win no more."

Numerous bizarre attempts have been made to break the curse and despite winning their division on several occasions since, the Cubs have never quite gone the distance.

The Cleveland Indians have a curse of their own, believed to have originated from a trade of popular player Rocky Colavito for Harvey Kuenn in 1960.

Fans were incensed that home run champion Colavito was left go for Kuenn, the 1959 batting champion but Colavito has repeatedly denied placing any such curse on the Indians.

The story has gained in popularity over the years, however numerous other scenarios have been presented as the reasoning behind the Indian's misfortune.

Whatever happens over the next seven games, one franchise will be released from their hell while the other will be left cursing their luck yet again.
