International rugby supporters to add €40m to Dublin economy

It is expected rugby supporters travelling to Ireland for Six Nations matches will generate more than €40m for the Dublin economy.

The figure was compiled by the Dublin Chamber of Commerce.

Around 6,000 French fans are expected to pass through Dublin Airport this weekend as Ireland take on France in their second Six Nations match at The Aviva this evening.

Public affairs director with Dublin Chamber of Commerce Aebhric McGibney said the home Six Nations games provided a welcome boost to the economy.

"The games provide a big stimulus to the Dublin economy," he said.

"The international tourists will add a boost of about €40m to the Dublin economy in terms of their spend on hotels, restaurants and bars."
