GAA Team News: Johnny Buckley misses out for Kerry

By Stephen Barry

Johnny Buckley is the only player to drop out of the Kerry team ahead of their All-Ireland quarter-final against Kildare.

Buckley is replaced in the half-forward line by Stephen O’Brien, who received a red card late on in Kerry’s Munster final replay win. Despite that, the Kenmare man recovers his place in the team from the drawn game.

The omission of Buckley, along with the continued absence of Colm Cooper and Fionn Fitzgerald, means that Dr Crokes are without a representative on the Kerry team.

Their opponents in Sunday’s quarter-final, Kildare, are yet to name their starting XV, as they bid to maintain the momentum of their runaway victory against Cork.

KERRY: Brendan Kealy (Kilcummin); Marc Ó Sé (An Ghaeltacht), Aidan O’Mahony (Rathmore), Shane Enright (Tarbert); Jonathan Lyne (Killarney Legion), Killian Young (Renard), Paul Murphy (Rathmore); Anthony Maher (Duagh), David Moran (Kerins O’Rahillys); Stephen O’Brien (Kenmare), Bryan Sheehan (St Marys), Donnchadh Walsh (Cromane); Paul Geaney (Dingle), Kieran Donaghy (Captain, Austin Stacks), James O’Donoghue (Killarney Legion).

Galway and Tyrone, who will face Donegal and Sligo respectively in their round 4 qualifiers on Saturday, also named their teams tonight.

Galway show one change, with Adrian Varley replacing Peadar Ó Griofa at right-corner forward.

That means ace forward Shane Walsh does not get a start. Walsh got five minutes of pitch-time at the end of their Derry win, as he continues his recovery from injury.

Meanwhile Tyrone introduce Rory Brennan, who joins All-Ireland U21 winning teammates Conor Meyler and Mark Bradley in the Senior team. Cathal McCarron misses out, as he is unavailable for the Sligo game.

TYRONE: Niall Morgan (Edendork); Aidan McCrory (Errigal Ciarán), Ronan McNamee (Aghyaran), Rory Brennan (Trillick); Ronan McNabb (Dromore), Joe McMahon (Omagh), Peter Harte (Errigal Ciarán); Colm Cavanagh (Moy), Mattie Donnelly (Trillick); Tiernan McCann (Killyclogher), Mark Bradley (Killyclogher), Conor Meyler (Omagh); Darren McCurry (Edendork), Sean Cavanagh (Captain, Moy), Connor McAliskey (Clonoe).
