Browne calls time on 23-year inter-county career

Waterford hurler Tony Browne has announced his inter-county retirement.

After an incredible 23-year inter-county career that spanned three decades, the 41-year-old has confirmed that he feels the time is now right for him to bring the curtain down on his time in a Waterford jersey.

The 1998 Hurler of the Year is widely recognised as one of the best defenders in modern hurling and says he has "loved and embraced every moment" of his time in the Waterford jersey.

He was part of the Waterford team that lost the 2008 All Ireland final to Kilkenny and he also earned four Munster titles and three National League medals.

In his statement, the Deise's most-capped hurler thanked his former team-mates and coaches as well as the medical staff that had helped him to prolong his career beyond expectation.

Browne also paid tribute to his club, Mount Sion who he has helped to seven county titles.

The 1998 Hurler of the Year says that he feels that the time is right for him to quit the panel after an astonishing 23 years in a Waterford jersey.
