Belvo' run in six tries in victory over Dolphin

Old Belvedere, who were under the threat of relegation in recent weeks, wrapped up their Ulster Bank League campaign with a third win on the trot over Dolphin at Anglesea Road.

Having battled past St. Mary's College and Lansdowne in previous rounds, Andy Dunne's men sealed a seventh place finish in Division 1A with an impressive final day effort.

'Belvo ran in six tries, including a brace from current Ireland Under-20 international Steve Crosbie, with goal-kicking winger Josh Glynn supplying three conversions.

Dolphin, searching for their first win since mid-March, began brightly with in-form hooker Niall Scannell getting over for a try which Barry Keeshan converted.

But the hosts dictated play during the remainder of the first half with Glynn, who missed two initial penalty attempts, converting tries from Jonathan Slattery, John Kennedy and excellent second row recruit Josh Eden-Whaitiri.

Flanker Colm Mallon's sin-binning early in the second period did not deter 'Belvo and promising out-half Crosbie was next over the try-line, before James Kiernan answered back for the Corkmen with an unconverted effort.

'Belvo made certain of a five-point return with further tries from Crosbie and replacement Killian O'Neill.

There was no catching them in this form, but Dolphin gained some consolation with two late tries from Chris Rowe and Crosbie's Ireland U-20 team-mate Rory Scannell.

Scorers:

Old Belvedere: Tries: Jonathan Slattery, John Kennedy, Josh Eden-Whaitiri, Steve Crosbie 2, Killian O’Neill; Cons: Josh Glynn 5

Dolphin: Tries: Niall Scannell, James Kiernan, Chris Rowe, Rory Scannell; Cons: Barry Keeshan 3

HT: Old Belvedere 21 Dolphin 7
