Mark Ellis returns to Cork team to face Tipperary

Mark Ellis has been selected at full-back in place of the injured Stephen McDonnell for Cork ahead of their Munster SHC quarter-final against Tipperary in Semple Stadium on Sunday afternoon, writes Peter McNamara.

Injury has curtailed Ellis’s seasonal participation thus far in 2016 but he returns to fill the void left by captain McDonnell who is marked absent due to a broken elbow.

Cormac Murphy, Christopher Joyce and Lorcán McLoughlin will man the half-back slots.

However, it has been suggested Ellis and Joyce may interchange positions.

William Egan, as he did in the Allianz NHL Division 1 relegation play-off against Galway, will again partner midfield dynamo Daniel Kearney.

Cork’s attack will be spearheaded by the predatory trio of Alan Cadogan, Seamus Harnedy and Patrick Horgan.

Kieran Kingston’s men are the 11/4 outsiders to progress to meet Limerick in the provincial semi-final.

The Cork team is as follows:

1 Anthony Nash

2 Damien Cahalane

3 Mark Ellis

4 Conor O’Sullivan

5 Lorcán McLoughlin

6 Christopher Joyce

8 Daniel Kearney

9 William Egan

10 Bill Cooper

11 Conor Lehane

12 Brian Lawton

13 Alan Cadogan

14 Seamus Harnedy

Subs:

19 Stephen Murphy

20 Sean O'Donoghue

21 Aidan Walsh

22 Niall Cashman
