It means Mauricio Pochettino's men are likely to need maximum points from their visit to Monaco later this month and the final group game against CSKA Moscow at Wembley if they are to qualify for the knock-out stages.

"We worked a lot last season to get into the Champions League and we cannot waste everything, we need to be ready for the next two games and try to get the miracle," Lloris said.

"I don't want to think that we have already slipped out of this competition. I think there are still two games and six points, we need to believe.

"It's true that we cannot be in a worse situation today but that's football and sometimes you need to create a miracle."

Tottenham produced their worst performance of the season so far against Leverkusen as defensive mistakes and sloppy passing cost them dear.

Kevin Kampl's second-half winner was no less than the visitors deserved and it means Spurs have now lost both of their matches at Wembley in this year's competition, after their 2-1 defeat to Monaco there in September.

"It is difficult to accept that kind of performance from us," Lloris said. "It was difficult to recognise the team, (normally) very aggressive, very calm under pressure, and today was completely the opposite."

Tottenham were again without both Harry Kane and Toby Alderweireld, although both are nearing recoveries from injury and Kane could even feature in the north London derby against Arsenal on Sunday.

Lloris, however, insists Spurs cannot rely on any magic fix.

"We cannot depend on one, two or three players. We need to think as a team," the France goalkeeper said.

"It is difficult because this game (against Leverkusen) was very important and I did not feel we were aware of that.

"Leverkusen did not play a great game. They were just well organised and had some chances because of us, because we made too many mistakes.

"At the moment we need to learn quickly because there is a big, big game on Sunday."

While Tottenham are now winless in six matches, and without a goal from open play in five, Arsenal head into this weekend in a rich vein of form.

The Gunners have won 10 out of their last 11 games, a run that has seen them move up to second in the Premier League table and seal qualification to the Champions League's last 16.

"It's always important to play the derby. We just need to forget about the disappointment of this game," Lloris said.

"We will be back in a Premier League game in a great stadium with a good pitch. We need to enjoy that kind of moment and stay united.

"It's true that the last few games we haven't won and perhaps we've lost a bit of confidence.

"I hope that we are aware that that kind of game against Arsenal is a big, big opportunity for everyone to enjoy football, share a great moment of football with the fans and try to make them proud of us."
