Brandt Snedeker takes Farmers Insurance Open title without hitting a ball

Brandt Snedeker claimed glory in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines as his competitors were unable to match his superb performance in the delayed final round.

Snedeker was the clubhouse leader on six-under-par after a superb 69 yesterday before wild weather brought about a suspension in play, with almost 50 of the field unable to complete their round.

The American defied strong winds and rain to strike four birdies, with only on bogey, while everyone else around him floundered, allowing him to cut a six-shot deficit to just one when play was called off on Sunday.

And he won the tournament on Monday without having to hit a ball as overnight leader Jimmy Walker, whose final round was curtailed in Sunday by the weather, dropped four shots, with KJ Choi also struggling to slip below Snedeker in the leaderboard.

The South Korean needed a birdie at the final hole to force a play-off but had to settle for a par.

Neither Walker or Choi were helped by play being delayed by a further two hours yesterday as groundstaff worked tirelessly to remove a fallen tree from the 15th fairway.

Snedeker told PGAtour.com: "The way the wind blew and made those last five holes play so tough on those guys, I feel bad for them.

"They got the raw end of the stick this morning.

"But that's just the way golf goes, and luckily enough, I played good enough yesterday to get the job done.

"So it's a special feeling to say the least."
