An "unchangeable meaningful fixtures programme within a shorter season for every club player" is the primary goal of the newly-established Club Players Association (CPA).
In a statement to be released tomorrow, the CPA announce their intentions to register GAA club players’ interest in the coming weeks.
The statement reads: “The Club Players Association (CPA) intends to be the voice of the club player, to protect their well-being by delivering an unchangeable meaningful fixtures programme within a shorter season for every club player.
The newly formed organisation is currently developing a website that will welcome all GAA club players across the country to register their support for this long overdue change. Details of this will be announced in the coming weeks.”
CPA founder Declan Brennan met with GAA director general Páraic Duffy on Monday after the CPA staged their first meeting in Croke Park two days previous, a gathering which was attended by the likes of Micheál Quirke, Shane Curran, Derek Kavanagh and Anthony Moyles.
Brennan says he has been overwhelmed with the amount of feedback he has received since deciding to go ahead with the establishment of the group, which had been called for by the likes of former Mayo and Down stars David Brady and Conor Deegan, who have also grown disillusioned with how the county scene has impinged on club fixtures.
Until the website goes live, the CPA have encouraged people to follow updates on Twitter (twitter.com/ClubPlayerAssoc) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/clubplayersassoc). They can also be contacted by email - clubplayers@outlook.com
