Dublin midfielder Michael Darragh Macauley says the All-Ireland champions have a lot of improvement to make if they are to get the better of Donegal in the All-Ireland SFC semi-final.
Despite the comfort of their 17 points win over Monaghan, Macauley insisted many areas of the champions’ game needs to be worked on over the next few weeks.
“Obviously there’s a huge amount to improve on, and we’ll go back, look at that and go into the next game,” he said.
Dublin strolled through Leinster with a series of runaway wins, and it was the same again at HQ when they took on the beaten Ulster finalists, but Macauley reflected on a difficult opening period, with the sides level after 25 minutes.
“It was definitely our toughest match so far. Fifteen minutes into that game we were all blowing. We’re just happy to get through
“Monaghan were always going to bring a strong presence up here today. They really let us know about it in the first 15 minutes.”
But the floodgates opened after Diarmuid Connolly and Bernard Brogan both hit the net in the space of three minutes, and another avalanche of scores duly followed.
“It was a great scoring performance from the lads up front. That’s the sort of performance we want to try and carry into the next game.
“We have to forget about the score at all times. At half-time we said it was nil-all and we were going out to win the game again.”
