Dublin GAA fans plan moving tribute for Buncrana tragedy victims

Dublin host Donegal in their Division 1 National Football League game tonight and fans of the hosts are said to be planning a commemoration for the victims of the tragedy in Buncrana last Sunday.

Sean McGrotty, his children, 12-year-old Mark and eight-year-old Evan, along with their grandmother Ruth Daniels and her daughter Jodi-Lee Daniels all drowned after their car slipped on algae and went off the pier in the seaside town.

Mr McGrotty's four-month-old daughter was the only survivor, rescued by Davitt Walsh who swam out to try to help the family.

He reached the car just in time for Seán McGrotty to hand the baby through the window, moments before it sank.

A post on the Facebook page of the Dublin supporters has appealed for "the whole stadium to stand up as one" on the fifth minute for a minute's applause in honour of the victims.

A very touching gesture.
