There have been some fabulous commemorations of the Easter Rising in Ireland and beyond over the last few weeks - but this one has to be right up there with the best.

There have been some fabulous commemorations of the Easter Rising in Ireland and beyond over the last few weeks - but this one has to be right up there with the best.

Cormac McAnallen's GAC are a high profile GAA club in Sydney and each year they host a football tournament - the Annual Cormac McAnallen's GAC Sydney Beach Football Tournament.

Held at Maroubra Beach, this year’s event took place on Sunday April 3.

The club and the extended GAA and Irish community of New South Wales combined to create this sun-drenched word formation of '1916, 2016 Eire' on the sand.

The video shows the formation as recorded from overhead, accompanied by a reading of the Proclamation by Clare native Orla Thornton, set to music.

Beautiful stuff - a hearty congratulations to all involved.

Thanks to the Cormac McAnallens GAA’s Facebook page for the video - check them out here.
