Foley declares his interest in Munster job
Munster forwards coach Anthony Foley has publicly kick-started the race to succeed Tony McGahan for the position of head coach by declaring his interest to Cork's Evening Echo.
Foley said that he would be flattered to be associated with the position.
"I don’t know what the future holds,” Anthony. Foley said.
"I think you’d be flattered to have your name associated with it.
"I think there’d be a lot of good coaches coming in for that job, it’s a great job and it’s a great club to be involved in.
"I’ve been fortunate to be involved with them for all my career.
"What I know is it’s a great place to learn your trade, it’s a great place for other coaches, you just look back down the list of coaches that have been here, they all seem to go on to bigger and better things.
"So it’s a great springboard, stepping stone for ambitious coaches but, I’ll tell you one thing, you need to be fully aware of what you’re getting into here and I’m sure that’s something that they’ll take into account when they’re picking a successor.”"
The only question will be whether this opportunity has come too soon when the perception was that Foley would be groomed to succeed McGahan in a couple more years.
