Kate Winslet devastated her favourite British designer Ben de Lisi by going to an American dressmaker for her Oscar dress this year.

The fashion house is "shocked and hurt" the Titanic beauty appeared at this year's ceremony in a blue creation by New York design duo Badgley Mischka.

To make matters worse, the Ben De Lisi black strapless gown worn by the screen star at the New York premiere of Finding Neverland is now up for grabs on auction website clothesagency.com and has so far raised $1470 (€1,100) for a tsunami charity.

A spokesman for Ben De Lisi says: "We would have loved her to wear one of our dresses, but you can't win them all. We're sure she will be dressed by us again soon."
