Tuesday’s TV tips

The Taste of Success (RTE One, 8.30pm)

It’s round two of The Taste of Success and tonight contestants from North, South, East and West battle it out to win a prize worth €100,000 and get their product on the shelves of more than 140 Lidl Ireland stores across Ireland.

Lewis (ITV, 9pm)

It’s 10 years since Kevin Whately returned to the Morse universe to play Robbie Lewis. In that time, this spin-off series has become hugely popular – almost as big as the drama that spawned it – and is a global success.

It looks set to continue for some time too, because the standard of the scripts is as high as ever. The latest run begins with a two-part case for Lewis and his sidekick Hathaway.

The duo have a new boss to contend with – Chief Superintendent Moody - who isn’t sure that Lewis should have come out of retirement, putting pressure on the veteran detective to solve the crime as quickly as impossible.

It involves the remains of a body found down a well, and takes Oxford’s finest into the complex worlds of social media, drugs, taxidermy, art, the homeless and the city’s colleges.

The Naked Choir with Gareth Malone (BBC2, 9pm)

The search for the nation’s most entertaining amateur group who can sing a cappella continues as the six remaining acts are brought together for the first time, to contend with intensive mentoring at the state-of-the-art Performance Hub.

They will also perform in front of a live audience and a jury of experts, whose votes will decide which teams go through to the next stage.

Amid the gruelling training, two groups grapple with bringing emotion to their performances, while disaster strikes for another act.

Maia Dunphy’s The Truth about Childbirth (RTE Two, 10pm)

Maia Dunphy faces into the biggest upheaval of her life; challenging her own deep-seated fears about childbirth by meeting women who’ve given birth in every possible way.

Can’t Pay, We’ll Take It Away S2 (TV3, 10pm)

Following people on the sharp end of bad debt – and those whose job it is to get the money back!

With exclusive access to some of the most experienced High Court enforcement bailiffs and repossession teams in the country, this series is an eye-opening insight into cash-strapped Britain from the perspectives of debtors, creditors and debt collectors.

It reveals what it means to be a creditor who cannot get back what they are owed, what it is like to be saddled with debt that you are simply unable to repay and what it takes to be the kind of person who can pay, but refuses to do so.

Can’t Pay We’ll Take It Away captures the daily hassle of dealing with violent confrontations, tearful debtors, downright liars and genuine cases of hardship.

My Transgender Kid (Ch4, 10pm)

New series. Documentary series about some of the youngest transgender people in Britain and the US as they and their families make life-changing decisions, beginning with two ordinary British families as they attempt to deal with the challenges of having a seven-year-old child who was born in the wrong gender.

The parents are faced with difficult decisions, including whether to use ’he’ or ’she’ pronouns, and if they should let their children go to school with their new identity and risk bullying and judgement.

The Job Lot (ITV2, 10.30pm)

The offbeat comedy set in and around a West Midlands job centre continues tonight with a shock for Karl, who finds a pregnancy test in Natalie’s drawer.

He instantly leaps to the conclusion that she is pregnant and finds himself drawn to the idea.

Sadly, when he sets about proving what a great father he could be, his over-the-top efforts have rather the opposite effect.

But does the test really belong to Natalie? Back at the office, Angela causes mayhem when she brings her pregnant cat into work.

Apocalypse Now (ITV4, 11.15pm)

(1979) Francis Ford Coppola’s oft-imitated but never bettered Vietnam War drama follows the efforts of fresh-faced army captain Benjamin Willard (Martin Sheen), who is sent into Cambodia on a top secret mission, where his goal is to find and assassinate renegade colonel Walter Kurtz (Marlon Brando) who has gone insane and is worshipped by his brainwashed followers as a god.

However, as Willard’s patrol boat travels further upriver, the conflict and disarray surrounding him become increasingly disturbing.

Sheen, Brando and supporting actor Robert Duvall have rarely been better than in this nightmarish exploration of the harsh realities of war.

Something in the Air (Film4, 12.40am)

(2012) Written and directed by Olivier Assayas, Something In The Air is a rites of passage drama that unfolds in the aftermath of the May 1968 riots, which stirred revolutionary fervour in the hearts of France’s youth.

Gilles (Clement Metayer) is an aspiring painter, who intends to lend his voice to the movement sweeping across the country and shape a better future for successive generations.

A romance with girlfriend Laure ends when she dumps him for an older man, so Gilles dates Christine instead. During a night of booze-fuelled vandalism, a security guard is accidentally caught in the crossfire and Gilles and Christine flee the scene.

The teenagers head to Italy until the furore dies down and they become involved in the struggles of Italian workers.
