FILM: Ice Age: Continental Drift (Channel 4, 6.20pm)

Scrat the sabre-toothed squirrel’s pursuit of his beloved acorns accidentally sets off a tectonic chain reaction.

Manny the woolly mammoth, Diego the sabre-toothed tiger, Sid the sloth and Sid’s 80-year-old grandmother are swept out to sea on an ice floe.

Meanwhile, Manny’s soulmate Ellie and teenage daughter Peaches shepherd the land animals towards a bridge that provides the only escape route from their rapidly collapsing island.

Directed by Michael Thurmeier and Steve Martino, this is a colourful computer-animated romp with a generous glaze of mawkish sentiment to hammer home the importance of the family unit in times of emotional upheaval.

Featuring the voices of: Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, Peter Dinklage, Jennifer Lopez, Keke Palmer, Wanda Sykes, Nick Frost, Josh Gad

SPORT: League Sunday (RTÉ2, 7.30pm)

Michael Lyster is joined by Brendan Cummins and Eddie Brennan for highlights of this afternoon’s National Hurling League semi-finals double-header as Dublin faced Cork and Tipperary took on Waterford at Nowlan Park.

MOTORING: The Love of Cars (Channel 4, 8pm)

Actor Philip Glenister and car designer and mechanic Ant Anstead couldn’t really have picked a better time to launch the second series of their show For the Love of Cars.

After all, a certain well-publicised incident means there’s currently a gap in the market for a Sunday night motoring show.

But relief from Top Gear withdrawal symptoms isn’t the only reason to tune into the programme, which sees the duo scouring barns, garages and lock-ups, looking for old motors in need of a new lease of life.

There’s also the cars themselves, which in this second run include a Mk1 Golf GTi, a 1958 VW Beetle, and a Mk1 Fiat 500.

However, the duo begin by trying to work their magic on an Aston Martin DBS that’s been rotting on a driveway in Hertfordshire.

DETECTIVE DRAMA: Vera (UTV Ireland, 8pm)

The Northumbrian countryside may look striking in this detective series, but it’s also highly dangerous.

This week, DCI Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn) and partner DS Aiden Healy (Kenny Doughty) are called to a remote farm after the body of an unidentified man is dredged up from a slurry pit.

Owner Danny Pryor (Mark Bonnar) is forced to admit he’s been using a number of illegal Serbian workers – one of who has fled to the nearest port, while another is currently suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Did his ex-fiancee’s father try to avenge his daughter? Or is Vera about to uncover a link between Jack, the Serbians and Pryor Farm?

PERIOD DRAMA: Poldark (BBC1, 9pm)

News that a second series of Poldark has been commissioned didn’t just delight viewers.

In this week’s episode, dastardly George Warleggan steps up his efforts to crush the Carnmore smelting company – and it seems the only thing that’s preventing him succeeding is the fact that he doesn’t know the identity of any of the shareholders apart from Ross.

That could all change though when Verity runs away with Captain Blamey.

Meanwhile, Demelza does her best to bring peace to the Poldarks, and Mark returns home from work earlier to find Keren up to no good.

PERIOD DRAMA: Indian Summers (Channel 4, 9pm)

It’s had some strong Sunday night period-drama competition from Mr Selfridge and the much-hyped, but Indian Summers has still had a good spring – a second series has already been commissioned.

So don’t be surprised if there are still some loose ends dangling at the end of this season finale.

Ramu’s fate is in the balance, as Ralph now knows the truth about the murder, but will he speak up or let an innocent man hang?

It’s also an emotional time for Sarah as she prepares to say goodbye to India - and her husband.
