Monday’s TV tips

World's Scariest Weather (3e, 7pm)

New documentary series featuring some of the world's most frightening moments.

World's Scariest Weather details high octane moments of the most violent and dangerous weather captured on camera, with unprecedented views from the eye of the storm.

Salt – Are You Eating Too Much?: Channel 4 Dispatches (Ch4, 8pm)

Heart attacks and strokes linked to high blood pressure are costing the NHS £2billion a year.

Part of the solution is for us all to eat less salt, but this documentary asks if this is a battle the public are really prepared for.

Testing a number of Britain’s best-known food brands, reporter Tazeen Ahmad reveals surprising evidence that suggests worrying inaccuracies in the labelling of salt content, with two-thirds of the products tested containing more salt than is stated on the label.

Whiskey Business (TV3, 8.30pm)

Filmed over a full year, Whiskey Business is a blunt and honest look at two brothers, Jack and Stephen Teeling, following their dream of continuing a two hundred and thirty year old family tradition of distilling fine quality Irish whiskey.

The all-important deadline of St. Patrick's Day is looming and while the Teeling Whiskey Distillery is finally starting to take shape, delays and snag are playing an all too important role in the development of the project.

Can the boys open the Distillery on time or will they be forced to let down their customers and tour groups?

Superfoods: The Real Story (C4, 8.30pm)

According to the old saying, you are what you eat.

So, could we all eat smarter? Probably.

And doing so may help prolong our lives. Every so often, scientists reveal something new about the food we consume, revealing the items that have previously unknown health benefits. Sadly, none of them ever seem to be burgers or chips.

This new series, fronted by Kate Quilton, focuses on the so-called superfoods, and asks whether they really are the nutrition miracles we’ve been led to believe.

She begins by investigating the idea that eating grapefruit can help fight fat, and whether kale is good for eyes. Kate also looks at sugar substitute xylitol, and finds out if it could be good for teeth, as has been claimed.

Wimbledon 2Day (BBC2, 8.30pm)

Clare Balding presents a look back at the day’s action, and is joined by stellar names from the world of tennis and celebrity guests to assess day one at the All England Club, in front of a live audience at SW19.

In-depth analysis and discussion of how the star players have fared will also include questions from the audience, offering the chance to delve deeper into the tournament, as well as instant reaction to the matches still taking place on the grass courts.

Gotham (RTE 2, 9pm)

The battle between good and evil rages on in the first season finale.

As Gotham City’s gang war reaches its boiling point, Fish Mooney goes head-to-head with Maroni and Penguin in an attempt to restake her claim on the city.

Meanwhile, Barbara and Leslie Thompkins are brought together after recent events, and Bruce searches Wayne Manor for any hints that his father might have left behind.

Kevin McCloud’s Escape to the Wild (Ch4, 9pm)

Kevin heads toward the Arctic Circle to meet Richard and Claire Rees, an intrepid Welsh couple who have given up their jobs and former lives to reside in a basic wooden cabin in the snow-covered forests of northern Sweden.

Living completely off-grid, with no electricity or running water, and facing temperatures that can go as low as minus 30C, simply surviving is a challenge.

Kevin helps with the arduous, repetitive daily tasks of chopping wood and collecting water from under the ice, learning that a cup of coffee can take an hour to make. Last in the series.

Red (Film4, 9.00pm)

(2010) Former Black Ops agent Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) has retired from active duty and now carves out a mundane existence in suburbia, where the highlight of his day is flirting on the phone with customer services agent Sarah (Mary-Louise Parker).

When a gun-toting death squad razes his home, Frank goes on the run with Sarah and heads to Louisiana to reunite with old friend Joe Matheson (Morgan Freeman), then on to a secret bunker to re-enlist conspiracy theorist Marvin Boggs (John Malkovich).

As the body count rises, ex-agents and Sarah add sniper Victoria (Helen Mirren) to their ranks and unravel the mystery of an old mission in Guatemala.

An award-winning A-list cast and well-judged, tongue-in-cheek humour enliven Robert Schwentke’s explosive action comedy based on the comic series by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner.

Independents’ Day? (RTE One, 9.35pm)

Across the country, politicians are starting to gear up for the General Election. They all want your vote and many want to govern.

But the face of Irish politics is starting to change: hoping to cash in on a wave of support for independents and others, many of the formerly independent TDs in the Dáil are coming together to form alliances and even new parties.

This documentary asks what role these groups will play in a new Dáil.

Under the Dome (C5, 10pm)

Following up a major success can be difficult, especially in the fickle world of TV. But Dean Norris has managed it.

He is familiar to millions across the globe as DEA agent Hank from Breaking Bad, but he’s now making an impact as the aptly named Big Jim Rennie in this sci-fi drama, based on a Stephen King novel.

It’s back for a new run this week, and Big Jim is in the thick of things – he is suffering from hallucinations and is told by Linda that it’s time he made a sacrifice.

There are other problems to face too – metallic objects suddenly become lethal as the dome begins to emit a strong electromagnetic pulse.

Can Barbie’s science teacher friend find a way to stop it? Meanwhile, a stranger helps Julia save the life of someone who appears as if from nowhere.
