Mirren set for role opposite Cranston
Helen Mirren is in talks for 'Trumbo.'
The 'RED 2' actress is negotiating a role to star opposite Bryan Cranston in the biopic which is based on the life of the late blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo.
The American screenwriter and novelist, who died age 70, in September 1976, refused to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) in 1947 during investigation of Communist influences in the motion picture industry.
Mirren will play his wife Cleo Fincher, who died age 93 in October 2009, with whom he had three children, Christopher, Melissa known as Mitzi, and Nikola.
Trumbo, who began his writing career in the 30s, won two Academy Awards while blacklisted for his excellent work and one was originally given to a front writer while the other was awarded to his pseudonym.
Jay Roach will helm the project while Michael London is producing through his Groundswell Productions banner, with Janice Williams and John McNamara.
Mirren last hit the big screen in 'RED 2' and she is currently working on documentary 'Unity' which she'll be narrating and is filming 'The Hundred-Foot Journey' where she plays Madame Mallory.
