Male actors have threatened to wear high heels at Cannes tonight in protest at a policy banning women in flat shoes from the red carpet.

Organisers of the film festival have been criticised following reports that several women were turned away from a premiere on Sunday for not wearing heels.

British actress Emily Blunt who is in France promoting her new film Sicario, says that it is 'disappointing'.

"I think everyone should wear flats, they are the best attire. I think we should not wear high heels anyway, that's just my point of view. I prefer wearing converse sneakers," Ms Blunt said with a giggle.

"But it is very disappointing. You think there are these new waves of equality."
