Liam Neeson-narrated 1916 Easter Rising documentary to be broadcast all over the world

A new documentary on the 1916 Rising is set to be shown worldwide this year.

The 70-minute documentary titled '1916: The Irish Rebellion', is set to be broadcast on the BBC in Britain, Australia, Canada and all around the world to mark the centenary of the Easter Rising - as well as being picked up by a record number of public TV stations across the United States.

Brilliantly narrated by our very own Liam Neeson, the doc - which depicts the historical, political and cultural events of the Rising and the relationships it brought about between Ireland, the US and Britain - will be premiered at the National Concert Hall, Dublin on March 16 and will later be shown as a three-part series broadcast on RTÉ.

This gala event will also be streamed internationally to Irish embassies across the world as part of the government's outreach programme to the Diaspora.

Produced by the University of Notre Dame's Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies, the documentary had a budget of about $3million.

This has been mostly funded by the University, with 20 per cent of the money coming from RTÉ and helped by the Section 481 tax incentive scheme.
