The seventh annual instalment of Tour de Picnic was launched by 2fm’s Jennifer Maguire, Keith Walsh and Bernard O’Shea today.
The annual charity drive, now sponsored by RaboDirect, offers revellers free access to Electric Picnic in exchange for raising funds for three worthwhile causes – The ISPCC (Childline), Special Olympics Ireland and The Irish Youth Foundation.
Last year, Tour De Picnic broke the €1.2m mark in funds raised for the charities to date.
Brian McDermott, event organiser said: “Thanks to everyone who cycled and fundraised and to you the public for your generosity in sponsorship over the years.
“It’s hard to believe that we started with only 30 cyclists six years ago and now we have 1,000 cyclists as well as runners, taking part.
“It’s extraordinary what a huge difference we have been able to make to so many Irish people’s lives through our charity partners.
“I would also like to welcome our new sponsor RaboDirect, I look forward to what looks like an exciting partnership ahead”.
Gail Banim, head of marketing at RaboDirect said: “We’re thrilled to support an event that promises festival goers a healthy kickstart to their weekend and benefits these really worthwhile causes as well“.
Entrants can register to cycle or run RaboDirect Tour De Picnic 2015 now.
A €50 deposit is required to secure a place for a ticket to Ireland’s biggest music and arts festival.
This deposit is also counted towards the final fund-raising total. Everyone is asked to raise a minimum of €380 by Friday, August 14, 2015.
This year, entrants must have at least €150 raised by Friday June 19 to secure a place due to extremely high demand for tickets.
If entrants sign up after June 19, a €150 deposit, which counts towards the €380 total, must be paid.
The royal treatment for all cyclists and runners includes the fully supported 80km cycle or 15km run (supplement by bus), baggage transfer, return bus, bike transfer home, all the snacks you can eat, special TDP kit, a private party on arrival and of course admission to Electric Picnic.
