Celine Dion's husband is her "life", and she has cancelled working engagements to be with him while he is ill.
The 46-year-old singer recently cancelled all her working engagements indefinitely to care for 72-year-old spouse René Angélil - who underwent treatment for a second bout of throat cancer in December.
Friends weren't surprised by her decision because her husband and their sons, René Charles, 13, and three-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson, always come first.
Pal Robin Leach told People magazine: "They are each other's lives. He and her family come first and she's always made that clear."
According to Robin, the 'My Heart Will Go On' hitmaker had been considering a break since her husband underwent surgery but has only now taken a "step back" as she wants to cherish her time with her family.
She added: "René was making great progress and was out and about. Last time I saw him, he was very thin and frail. Céline had to take a step back, and her decision is a realisation that you have to hold onto everything while you've got it."
Despite René's condition, his family are remaining "optimistic".
A source said: "The family are trying to stay positive. They're optimistic. "
Because of his ill health, René stepped down as his wife's manager earlier this year.
