Barrymore to sue over over pool death arrest

Michael Barrymore is suing the police in England over his 2007 arrest.

The former 'Barrymore' host is seeking damages claiming his career was destroyed by speculation about his involvement in the death of 31-year-old Stuart Lubbock in March 2001, after the father-of-two was found dead in the swimming pool of Michael's Essex home during a party.

The 63-year-old TV personality was not originally arrested in connection with the case - which has never been solved - although he was taken in by police following a review in 2007, later being released without charge.

After Stuart's death, ITV failed to renew his contract and he largely disappeared from screens apart from an attempted comeback when he appeared in the 2006 series of 'Celebrity Big Brother'.

However, Stuart's father, 70-year-old Terry Lubbock, has campaigned for justice since his son's death and said he is "disgusted" by Michael's actions.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I am totally disgusted by this.

"Perhaps one good thing will be if someone feels the same way I do and comes forward with new information about my son Stuart's death.

"I will never give up fighting for justice for my son."

Essex Police declined to comment on the case, saying it would be "inappropriate" to speak about the case.

They added: "As civil proceedings are currently ongoing it would be inappropriate for Essex Police to comment."
