A volcano in the channel between Italy and Tunisia is showing signs of increased activity, according to seismologists.

The volcano has emerged from the sea four times in the past.

The last time it surfaced was in 1831, setting off months of diplomatic wrangling between Britain, Spain and Sicily who all laid claim to the peak.

It’s understood that this time Italian drivers have already planted a flag on the submerged volcano to claim it for Italy if it does resurface.
