A thief on the run from police hid in a sewer pipe and had to be literally flushed out with water.

The man crawled inside a narrow 100-metre long drain pipe after stealing from a railway station in Luva, southern India.

After a four-hour stand-off with police firemen pumped in 4,500 litres of water and the suspect was flushed out.

"I would have continued to live in the pipe had it not been for the bath they gave me" the man said after his arrest.
