Australian rock star-turned-MP Peter Garrett returned to parliament saying he felt “quite a bit better” after he collapsed on a Sydney beach at the weekend.

Doctors have yet to explain why the 51-year-old former Midnight Oil frontman collapsed on Saturday as he waded from the surf in his southern Sydney electoral district.

Garrett, who was elected in October to the centre-left opposition Labour Party, told reporters: “I’m feeling quite a bit better. I’ll get some more checks done during this week.”
