Director: Claudia Llosa
Cast: Magala Solier, Susi Sanchez, Efrain Solis
Llosa’s second film, the first was Madeinusa, is complex, slow-paced and based on a Peruvian superstition concerning the mother’s milk of those who have been sexually abused … not the conventional subject matter to be found on screen.
As such, Llosa handles the story of Fausta (the excellent Solier) and her fear that she suffers from the disease of the sorrow of the title, and what she does about it.
Not an easy film to watch but one made with as much care as an awkward subject allows.
