Racegoers poured into Ascot for the final day of the Royal meeting to set a new record crowd figure for the final afternoon of the fixture.
The 70,675 who attended day five helped contribute to the weekly total of 287,876 – up markedly on the final figure of 275,090 12 months ago.
The Saturday crowd in 2007 stood at 56,188, with only the Thursday and Friday of this year seeing figures dip on the previous meeting.
Chief executive Charles Barnett said: “To break the 70,000 mark for today’s crowd is tremendous news and it is remarkable how popular the final day of Royal Ascot has become.
“Needless to say this is a record final-day crowd, which is remarkable as the fifth day only came into play in 2002.”
