A senile Japanese woman continued to look after her 84-year-old husband for a month after he died.

The 74-year-old did not realise her husband was dead.

She continued to cook him meals and leave soup for him in his room in their Tokyo home.

Police are not treating the 84-year-old man's death as suspicious and social services are assisting his wife.

A caretaker at the couple's apartment block contacted police after finding the husband dead.

The husband was found in a sleeping position in his bedroom, reports claim.

Local welfare officials said the couple had not been receiving any care services from the city and Tokyo's welfare commissioner post for their area was vacant at the time.
