A mother and her five children are thought to have drowned trying to save each other from a pond in India.

The children were aged from two to 14.

All the bodies have been recovered.

A resident of Phada village in the Jalore district of Rajasthan noticed bodies of two children floating in the village pond.

He alerted other villagers who summoned the father of the children.

It's believed the two-year-old was defecating near the pond when he fell into the water.

It's thought the remaining family members then drowned either trying to save the youngest child or each other.
