David Cameron to face EU leaders at Brussels summit

All 28 EU leaders are meeting for the first time since the UK voted to leave the EU today.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny will join UK Prime Minister David Cameron and 26 other heads of state and government in Brussels for a two-day summit later today.

The fallout from last week's Brexit result is a top priority on the agenda, however the UK is not expected to formally start proceedings on withdrawing from the union.

A consensus among EU states is that the UK should trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty as soon as possible in order for negotiations on a future relationship outside the EU to begin.
