Elite embark on American adventure

Elite Racing Club, Britain’s largest ownership syndicate, have sent one of their horses to be trained in America.

Oceans Apart, a four-year-old filly by Desert Prince, has left Paul Cole’s Whatcombe stable to be trained by Graham Motion in Florida, and is set to make her American debut later this month.

“We are spreading our wings a bit internationally as we are always looking for new things to give the members a bit of extra enjoyment and excitement. We thought it would be an interesting experiment,” said Elite’s racing manager Matthew Budden.

“She’s with Graham Motion down at Palm Meadows training centre in Gulfstream, Florida. Better Talk Now won the Breeders’ Cup Turf for him in 2004 and was second to Red Rocks in November.

“She is a filly we thought there might be a chance of getting placed in Stakes races over there. We are hoping she will do well and hopefully she will run before the end of the month.

“She’s settled in well and has had a couple of breezes on the track. Graham seems very happy with her and we’re looking forward to her first run.

“Florida seems to be the best place for opportunities for her and she’ll start off in an allowance race. Hopefully, if things go well, she can progress into a Stakes race. Everyone seems to be excited about the move,” he continued.

“We’ve been contacted by some of our members who live in the States and they are looking forward to going down there to see her run.

“We’ll probably plan a trip over there for members on this side of the Atlantic to see her as well.

“If it’s successful it’s something we could look to do in the future.”
