Magazine and radio group Emap today shrugged off gloom in the advertising market as it unveiled a 5% rise in half-year sales.
Sales were buoyed by its consumer magazine division, where revenues from circulation in Britain rose 7% in the six months to September 30 and advertising was up 2%.
In a trading statement ahead of its half-year results, Emap said celebrity magazine heat underpinned the performance, while women’s publications New Woman and Red also helped boost sales.
Other good performers were Angling Times and music weekly Kerrang!.
Overall, group revenues rose 5% while like-for-like sales, which strip out the effect of acquisitions or disposals, rose 2%.
Shares edged up 4p to 650p in London.
