The Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon will be the biggest yet, organisers announced today.

The Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon will be the biggest yet, organisers announced today.

Almost 16,000 runners have signed up for next month’s event. Most come from the British Isles but there are entries from the US, Cyprus, the United Arab Emirates, mainland Europe, Indonesia, Canada and Qatar.

Organiser Danny O’Connor said: “We enjoyed a record-breaking year in 2008, with almost 15,000 people taking part in the four events. This was more than double the entry level of just six years ago – and now we’ve absolutely smashed that entry record.”

Almost 2,800 entered the main marathon, 1,100 more than 2008. There are more than 1,900 relay teams, 2,200 walkers and almost 1,200 fun runners.
