EU may cut diesel taxes

The European Union is to consider proposals to standardise taxes on diesel fuel.

The European Union is to consider proposals to standardise taxes on diesel fuel.

The move follows last year’s protest by truck drivers across Europe demanding lower duties.

The proposals will be included in a paper on transport policy to be unveiled by the European Commission tomorrow.

The recommendations include standardising rates of excise duty on diesel for commercial vehicles across the EU and narrowing the gap between taxes on diesel and petrol.
