A car bomb exploded in a Baghdad residential neighbourhood today, killing three people, including a three-year-old girl and injuring six other Iraqis.

The explosion ripped through the Amiriya district during the late afternoon rush hour, said Major Phil Smith, a US military spokesman.

“I heard a big explosion as I was getting out of my car and then I found myself here,” said Jalal Hazim Rashid, 29, who woke up lying naked in the hospital, burns all over his body.

His daughter, Shilan, three, died in the blast.

“I heard that my husband was injured and when I came here I found my daughter dead,” said Rashid's wife, Samar Ali, 25. “They were buying lunch.”
