England to meet Ecuador

England 2 Sweden 2

England 2 Sweden 2

England will meet Ecuador rather than Germany in the last 16 of the World Cup after sharing the spoils with Sweden – but Michael Owen’s participation in the tournament could be over.

The Newcastle striker collapsed in agony with a serious looking knee injury after less than a minute and was carried off on a stretcher.

Joe Cole gave England a half-time lead with a swerving long-range effort but the Swedes dominated much of the second period and deservedly equalised though Marcus Allback.

Steven Gerrard’s late header looked to have settled the issue in England’s favour before Henrik Larsson equalised in the 90th minute.
