Murphy appointed chief exec of Irish Examiner

Thomas Crosbie Holdings, Ireland's fastest growing media company today announced that an internal candidate, Mr Tom Murphy, had been chosen as successor to Irish Examiner chief executive Padraig Mallon who is to leave the company at the end of November 2002.

Thomas Crosbie Holdings, Ireland's fastest growing media company today announced that an internal candidate, Mr Tom Murphy, had been chosen as successor to Irish Examiner chief executive Padraig Mallon who is to leave the company at the end of November 2002.

Mr Anthony Dinan, Group Managing Director of Thomas Crosbie Holdings, speaking today about Mr Mallon's impending move said: "For seven years Padraig has made a significant and noteworthy contribution to the development of both the Group and the Irish Examiner.

"It is with sincere regret that I accept his decision to move on. Padraig has indicated that he wishes to exploit his commercial acumen and management capabilities in other areas of business. We respect his decision and wish him every success for the future."

Commenting on the announcement, Mr Mallon said that he immensely enjoyed his seven years with Irish Examiner Publications.

A particular highlight for him personally has been the above average growth in advertising revenue enjoyed by the company since the mid '90s.

Mr Mallon praised the shareholders, board and management whose conviction and initiative has helped to create a great business and thriving brand. He also thanked, "a fantastic and loyal workforce", for their commitment and contribution in helping to make the Irish Examiner the great newspaper that it is.

Mr Tom Murphy joined Thomas Crosbie Holdings in 1990 and has held a number of financial positions within the group. He is currently Group Commercial Manager. He will assume the position of Chief Executive Designate from October 1 until Mr Mallon leaves at the end of November.

Commenting on his appointment Mr Murphy said: "I am very pleased to be appointed CEO of the Irish Examiner and am very much looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that will arise.

"I would like to thank the Group MD, Anthony Dinan for appointing me and also our Chairman, Alan Crosbie for this vote of confidence. It was with genuine regret that I learned of Padraig's decision to leave the group and he takes with him my very best wishes for the future."

Chairman of Thomas Crosbie Holdings Ltd. Alan Crosbie said: "I am sorry to see Padraig go and would like to wish him and of course Tom Murphy every success in their respective futures."
