Newbury have delayed plans for an all-weather track due to the on-going debate over the future funding of racing and the remaining uncertainty surrounding the availability of fixtures.

The Newbury Racecourse Board have, however, reiterated that the provision of quality racing on an all-weather track remains an integral part of its future strategy.

“We firmly believe that both Newbury and British racing as a whole will benefit from the provision of quality racing on an all-weather track,” said Newbury managing director Mark Kershaw.

“But without the sufficient fixtures we would not be able to sustain a viable programme without compromising our existing Flat and jumping fixtures.”
