Cats captain still coming to terms with four-in-a-row
Kilkenny captain Michael Fennelly was simply overawed with the welcome his side received as upwards of 30,000 Kilkenny supporters packed the Marble City streets to get a glimpse of their heroes last night.
Kilkenny's senior and minor teams were given a memorable homecoming in Kilkenny City, with Fennelly proclaiming that he was still finding it hard to come to terms with the historic All-Ireland four in-a-row.
"It hasn't sunk in at all yet, maybe over the next couple of days," he said.
"It's crazy at the moment with the homecoming and parade and everything. It's absolutely unbelievable, very surreal.
"It's a momentus occasion and hopefully it won't end for another while."
For a county so used to welcoming home victorious teams, one would be forgiven for thinking that last night's homecoming lacked excitement.
However, Fennelly was thankful that the Kilkenny supporters turned out in their droves to welcome his side, and felt that the 2009 homecoming was the best yet.
"The crowd here are unbelievable - absolutely unbelievable.
"(Tonight) was definitely the biggest I've seen over the past four years. Fair play to the supporters once again.
"They travelled to Croke Park for the game and came here and even though it's raining, they are here. They are the backbone to our team and it is tremendous."
