The Minister for Transport Martin Cullen is stressing that it is reasonable for Cork Airport to take on a €100m debt burden.
Minister Cullen met with Cork TDs this morning to discuss the issue.
He said it would be good for Cork to break away from Dublin control, even if this means accepting some debt.
"There's no change in the position as outlined by the previous Transport Minister and as I've said I think Cork are right to seize the opportunities that are now available in the avation sector.
"They want to be masters of their own destiny. I think that's the right approach to take and there's a very sound business case there for Cork to take on a portion of a debt which by any measure of a company of its asset-base is quite small," he said.
