John Daly has pulled out of the USPGA Championship for the second straight year.
Daly, who had been playing with Padraig Harrington and Davis Love, told an official last night he would not be back in the morning to complete his second round due to a shoulder injury.
He had started with a 76 and had fallen to nine over after seven further holes. Last year it was a bad back after an opening 78.
Daly said on Twitter that he was playing through “miserable pain” and was suffering from a torn rotator cuff.
It is the former Open champion’s third withdrawal of the PGA Tour season.
The 44-year-old looked on the comeback trail when he began The Open with a 66 last month, but he never broke par in the following three rounds and wound up 48th.
Daly has not had a top-20 finish since May last year in Italy.
