Sainsbury’s underlined the strength of late festive trading today when it became the second supermarket to report record sales in the week before Christmas.
Sainsbury’s said like-for-like sales including fuel were up 4.2% in the 12 weeks to December 30, while they jumped 5% when petrol was stripped out.
The supermarket said sales of its premium Taste The Difference range were particularly strong as 20 million customers visited its stores in its busiest pre-Christmas week ever.
Rival Morrisons also reported record sales in the week before Christmas when it updated the stock market on trading yesterday.
