The star was last night released on police bail pending further inquiries after he was interviewed by detectives investigating the death of a man found unconscious in a swimming pool at his home.

Barrymore, 49, of Roydon, Essex, was arrested early yesterday on suspicion of committing a variety of drugs offences.

Two other men - one 31 and from Blackpool, Lancashire, the other 26 and from Harlow, Essex were arrested on suspicion of murdering 31-year-old meat factory worker Stuart Lubbock.

All three were due to return to Harlow police station on August 15, he said.

In a statement today Barrymore’s manager and agent, Anne Chudleigh, said: ‘‘Having been detained at Harlow police station, Michael Barrymore has now been released on bail pending further inquiries by Essex Police.

‘‘Michael Barrymore has at all times sought to co-operate with Essex Police in relation to their investigation concerning the death of Mr Lubbock.

‘‘They have no suspicions concerning Michael Barrymore in relation to the circumstances surrounding the tragic death.
