Officials in Beijing have upped safety standards by only allowing two flies per toilet.

The Beijing Municipal Commission of City Administration have ordered workers in shopping centres, train stations, tourist areas and parks to make sure there is never more than two of the insects buzzing around each of the loos.

According to China Daily, officials have also asked that workers ensure there are no more than two pieces of discarded rubbish around in such areas, and the trash must be picked up every half an hour.

Despite the two-fly rule, Xie Guomin, head of the sanitation management division, revealed the rules are optional.
