There are reports that a building has exploded and collapsed in New York.

Emergency services in New York City are responding to reports of an explosion.

The reports also indicate a possible building collapse, in the East Harlem area.

There were no immediate reports of injuries. TV news footage shows smoke billowing from the area.

WABC reported that residents heard a large explosion in an apartment building at around 9am local time.

The fire department said the reports came in from around Park Avenue between 114th and 117th streets.
